Actually set aside some time today to work on "goal setting for 2005" -- a useful, if incredibly hard exercise, because it forces you to take inventory of 2004 and do some pretty criticial self assesment and planning for 2005.....
I'm inspired this year by Peyton Manning. Peyton set 3, 1 sentence, clearly measurable professional goals. Not 5 goals, not paragraphs, not "be a nicer person"; 3, 1 sentence, clearly measurable professional goals. That's what i'm working toward....and starting by trying to portion off my professional life.....
but then you run on to the critical question: is it *your* professional life, or your company's goals that you're supporting? the correct answer, of course, is both. Peyton's goals were individual (70% completion rating, single digit interceptions, 40TDs) and team-oriented (if he did that, he'd REALLY be living up to his position on his football team).
Anyway -- that's what i'm doing at the moment....thinking about professional goal setting for 2005.
My new years resolution is to find a better paying job in the IT industry! Man it is bad.
